Saturday May 30th 11:45 AM

Tommy fractured his spine at C1 and damaged his vertebral artery exactly one week ago. At that time, Tommy was at risk for not being able to walk and having potential neurological/brain damage. However, the seven days since his injury, we have gained more certainty to his future. It looks as though Tommy will recover but with potential surgery in the future to stabilize his spine. We feel so blessed that this wasn't worse. Also, blessed to have all of you praying for Tommy's recovery.

This morning, Tommy was able to walk once around the floor and sit-up for 15 mins - to see this, is beyond words. Immediately after, he felt sick and laid back down. It will be like this for some time - two steps forward, one-step back. For the remainder of the day, he will try and sit up (in a chair) a few more times. He has to get use to being up right again and to get his neck muscles working to support his head. He is still in pain but mostly off the i.v. pain meds. Good news is that they just took him off the i.v. heparin this morning and is only on the oral coumadin.

What a difference seven days makes. Peace.

  1. We are so happy to hear that Tommy is healing and able to stand again today! We have been praying and trust that in HIS timing we will understand more clearly why this had to happen. I know by my own experiences that going through the dark times have only made me want and need to cling on to his wisdom and promises.

    We pray that you are encouraged today and see more of HIS great wisdom and love in the midst of your trial.

    Much love ~ Nikki, Stefan & Danielle

  3. Tommy and entire Mallon Family.

    The following verse was a comfort for me while I was in the hospital and I hope it will comfort and encourage you as well.

    But now, this is what the LORD says—
    he who created you, O Jacob,
    he who formed you, O Israel:
    "Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
    When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
    and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
    When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not set you ablaze.

    For I am the LORD, your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
    Isaiah 43:1-3a

    Remember the Lord is with you every step of the way guiding you, strengthening you and healing you! I am praying for you!!!! Patty Kolb
